From AGYLE to Impact: Building Inclusive Health Solutions for Girls and Women

by Blandine Umuziranenge, Founder and CEO Kosmotive

What current project are you working on?

Currently, I am leading the development of an innovative payment system for our KosmoPads reusable sanitary pads, designed to ensure that no girl or woman is left behind due to cost barriers. While our reusable pads already offer a more affordable long-term solution compared to disposables, the upfront cost can still be prohibitive for many in vulnerable communities. This system will allow users to purchase pads and pay in small, manageable installments, integrated with mobile money platforms for ease and transparency.

By enabling flexible payments, we are not only increasing access to menstrual products but also restoring dignity, boosting school attendance for girls, and supporting women’s economic participation. This initiative is part of our broader mission to achieve menstrual equity and to break the cycle of period poverty through inclusive, community-centered innovation. We plan to roll it out through KosmoPads kiosks across all districts in Rwanda, targeting underserved areas first.

What was your biggest success recently?

One of my biggest recent successes was leading Kosmotive’s nationwide campaign in May for Menstrual Hygiene Day, under the theme“Together for a Period-Friendly World.” We used theatre as a powerful medium to deliver educational messages, spark conversations, and break the silence and stigma surrounding menstruation. The campaign featured community outreach events that fostered honest, real-life discussions about the challenges girls face when they cannot afford menstrual products, especially how it affects their education, health, and dignity.

We collaborated with local influencers, musicians, and comedians and partnered with radio stations to amplify our message across Rwanda. Through this multi-platform approach, we reached over 5 million people, significantly raising awareness and shifting public perception around menstrual health. This campaign not only strengthened our impact but also solidified Kosmotive’s role as a leading voice for menstrual equity and dignity in Rwanda. It demonstrated how creative, community-driven advocacy can inspire change and build momentum toward lasting solutions.

What experience from AGYLE had the most impact on your further development?

The in-person AGYLE gathering in Berlin last year was a pivotal moment in both my personal and professional development, especially in advancing my work in the circular economy. The workshops were rich with insights, offering practical tools and strategies that I was able to directly apply to our operations at Kosmotive. Engaging with other fellows from across Africa and Germany created a dynamic space for knowledge exchange and cross-cultural collaboration.

What stood out most was learning how circular economy principles are integrated into policy and business practices in Germany and across Europe. This broadened my perspective on scalability and sustainability and helped refine our approach to circular product design and waste reduction. Being part of the AGYLE community has also elevated my profile as a circular business leader, opening doors to new networks, partnerships, and visibility. It’s a platform that continues to inspire me, while grounding my vision in globally informed, locally rooted action.

Is there something you like to share with the AGYLE community?

Being part of the AGYLE community is truly a privilege. The recent gathering in Kigali was not just inspiring, it was electric. The energy, passion, and drive shared among the alumni reminded me why this network is so special. Whenever we come together, there's a contagious sense of possibility that reignites my belief in collective impact and the power of young leaders to shape the future.

What stood out in Kigali was the deep sense of solidarity and shared purpose. In a world facing complex challenges, AGYLE brings together changemakers who are not only dreaming of a better future but actively building it, innovatively, sustainably, and inclusively. The spirit of collaboration and circular thinking runs deep in this community, and it reinforces my belief that real transformation happens when we act together. And yes, we can do it. Changemaking. Together.

What led to your recognition as a Most Impactful Voice?

I was recognized as a Most Impactful Voice 2025 by ACBD Media for my unwavering commitment to advancing menstrual equity and reproductive health through innovative, community-centered solutions. As the founder and CEO of Kosmotive, I have led impactful initiatives such as the KosmoPads reusable sanitary pads, community outreach campaigns, and the development of KosmoHealth, a digital health platform improving access to maternal and reproductive care.

My work focuses on breaking taboos, restoring dignity, and creating sustainable systems that support girls and women, particularly those in underserved communities. Through storytelling, policy advocacy, partnerships, and the creative use of arts like poetry and theatre, and technology, we've reached millions, influenced public discourse, and empowered women to live healthier, more confident lives.

Being a vocal advocate for gender equality, health rights, and social innovation positioned me as a leading voice shaping impactful, inclusive narratives in Africa and beyond, earning me this meaningful recognition from ACBD Media.
